What's the Vibe

You will have time for relaxation at our mountainside hotel, with daily morning yoga classes that will challenge you paired with nightly classes that will calm you down and relax the senses. Exploring the local culture will be at the forefront of the experience – we will offer some guided experiences but will also allow for free time so you can have your own adventure.

Hotel Schloss Wartenstein, our castle on a cliff, is located in Bad Ragaz in the canton of St. Gallen, which is known for it’s famous thermal spa Tamina Therme. We rented out the entire hotel, so we will have exclusive access to the common areas and grounds, which include a giant Christ the Redeemer statue and ruins of the Wartenstein castle built in 1206.

Balance is the key for a happy life, and we will do our best to provide a comfortable balance of adventure, tranquility, personal growth, community, and good old fashioned fun.

Your Instructor: Erin Lyons

Erin received her 200 hour yoga teacher certification in Rishikesh, India from Rishikesh YTTC in early 2020 but has been practicing yoga for over a decade. She graduated from Roger Williams University where she studied Dance & Performance Studies and Global Communications and currently teaches yoga classes full time all around New York City. She loves building connections, diving deeper into yoga, and most importantly making clients feel good.

Erin created Atlas Yoga to fuse two of her favorite things – travel and yoga. Having traveled to 30 countries and hiked in 50 national parks around the US, it’s safe to say she knows a thing of two about what makes a travel experience memorable. Building upon these two passions, Atlas Yoga curates retreats that are the perfect combination of travel and yoga.

What's the Location

You will be staying at Hotel Schloss Wartenstein in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland which is an hour train ride east of Zurich. This is the origin of the children’s book Heidi, a picturesque area of the canton of St. Gallen in the Swiss Alps. You will be about a 15 minute drive from Liechtenstein, one of the richest countries per capita in the world while only being 62 square miles.

What's the Size of the Hotel

The hotel has 10 bedrooms, each with their own private bathroom. There are three room types: Deluxe Queen (double occupancy), Queen (single occupancy) and Twin rooms (single occupancy).

There is a large kitchen, multiple common areas, an outdoor patio, and a dining room that can accommodate up to 20 guests. Excluding your hosts, Erin and Brandon, the maximum number of participants for the retreat is capped at 11 people.

You will take several gondola rides up Pizol Mountain to hike about 2 miles roundtrip to two beautiful alpine lakes. While hiking you will have spectacular views of the Swiss Alps. This is a moderate hike but with a constant elevation gain. While the water is likely freezing cold, and it will be a fall day in Switzerland, you have the option to swim in the second lake.

Before you take the gondola down the mountain, you will stop for lunch (not included) at Pizolhutte, a Swiss eatery at 2,222 meters above sea level with panoramic views. There are options here for everyone including vegetarians/vegans. After lunch, you will head down the gondolas and be picked up again by private transport to bring you back to the hotel.

Free Day Details:

Bad Ragaz is a charming town with much to offer. If you enjoy exploring Michelin star restaurants, there are several to check out for lunch in Bad Ragaz, including a 3 Michelin star restaurant called Memories. You will have time on your own to explore, eat, shop, hike, spa, or whatever you fancy. You might even venture away from town by taking a day trip to Lichenstein, the famous area to inspire Heidi, or any other of the neighboring Swiss towns.

The group is encouraged to meet back up at From Heaven Tapas Bar in Bad Ragaz for dinner (included in price of retreat). From Heaven is a tapas restaurant with great service, cozy atmosphere, artsy vibe, and amazing food.  Wine and an array of tapas (veg and non-veg) are included in the price of booking.

Day 5 Highlight Photos:
Chur Day Trip:

Chur is the oldest town in Switzerland (5,000 years old!) and is the next major town over from Bad Ragaz. You will start the day by heading straight to Churwalden, a smalll ski town just outside of Chur, via private transportation where you will begin by taking a chairlift up Pradaschier Mountain. Once you reach the top, you will get to experience the longest toboggan ride in the country, a true Swiss cultural experience. After you take in the views and enjoy the ~7 minute toboggan ride, you will head to Chur via an 18 minute public bus ride. All of this part of the excursion is included in the price of your retreat.

In Chur, you have the opportunity to grab lunch at a Swiss restaurant, which is not included. A highly recommended option is heading to the historic restaurant at the Hotel Stern to order the “Bundner Trilogie”, 3 small plates of regional food (veg or non-veg). After lunch you can wander the Old Town or “Aldstadt” of Chur. The Old Town in Chur is often considered to be one of the most beautiful in Switzerland, and has architecture dating back 800 years. Later in the afternoon, you will join back up with the group to take a 15 minute train ride back to Bad Ragaz.

Tuesday, October 1st 2024

Pricing & Booking

We have 3 different room types to cater to the different types of travelers we will be hosting. The Queen and Twin rooms are single occupancy and allow for solo traveler booking. The Deluxe Queen rooms are shared by 2 people and can only be booked based on double occupancy.

If you have any questions about this breakdown, please reach out to us.

You can fly directly into Zurich (ZRH) – there are nonstop flights from NYC.

Often from NYC, the best way to travel to Europe is by redeye so plan to leave NYC the night of Wednesday September 25th to arrive to Zurich Thursday, September 26th. Brandon and Erin will already be at the hotel ready to check you in. If you have any questions about best flight tracking/airlines/credit card points, feel free to reach out as Brandon is a font of knowledge in terms of travel hacking.

***Make sure that your passport is valid at minimum 6 months beyond the last day of the retreat***

We will require guests to book their own transportation to and from Bad Ragaz. The reason for this is simple – Switzerland has fantastic public transportation, and it’s the simplest and most convenient way to get around the country. There are direct trains from Zurich to Bad Ragaz every hour, and they take 1 hour 16 minutes. You can expect round trip tickets to and from Zurich to be around $40 – $50.

We will send additional information on how to book the trains and the best times post booking.

Of course! Please let us know if you have any health restrictions and we will plan accordingly with our chef. All meals will be vegetarian friendly.

We offer early bird pricing until April 14th which is $100 off the price of retreat. A $500 deposit per person is charged at booking to hold your reservation, final payment of remaining balance will be processed automatically on July 1st, 2024. After this date, full payment will be required at booking.

Travel insurance is required to protect you! If for any reason you have to cancel, and you are not eligible for a refund as stated in our policy found here, then travel insurance can ensure that you get your money back. We know this from experience – we have had guests cancel at the last minute due to sickness, but thankfully their travel insurance covered the full cost of the retreat.

Our recommendation for attaining travel insurance is to use SquareMouth – it’s a website that allows you to compare insurance quotes from a bunch of different reputable companies to find the best coverage for you. Make sure to read the fine print, and determine for yourself how much coverage is necessary, including potentially upgrading to the option for “Cancel For Any Reason”. At the minimum, it should cover the cost of the retreat and your flights for an emergency situation (sickness, family emergency, etc.)
